"Bentley's Light Works are 'just shadows on acid'....ephemeral images created by the interception and filtration of light.
They have no independent existence, and are reminiscent of Plato's allegory of the cave,
where shadows serve to demonstrate the insubstantial nature of percieved 'reality'." KA
Elaine Bentley is a visual artist and poet working in a range of mediums and techniques, each chosen for its aptness to the meaning of the work, or as an experimental system resulting in an abstract expression.
Whilst a commercial artist in London she worked in illustration, photography, print, typography and design, and studied animation in Brixton.
Elaine also worked independently as a graphic artist, designing album and CD covers and hand silk-screening art posters for bands, and making paintings.
She moved to the Midlands and studied Painting and Video Installation Sculpture at Cheltenham College of Higher Education.
Her work considers modern life and is inspired by psychology, science and nature, and the dilemmas we face in a delicate world.
'The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science'.
